Privacy Policy

Who we are

Afterseat is an interest-based matchmaking and watch platform. Small rooms gather around niche films and essays. This policy explains what we collect to run those rooms, and how we use it.

What we collect

When you create an account we store a username, email address, and a hashed password — or an identifier from Google if you sign in that way.

During onboarding you may add age (18 or older), gender, nationality, ethnicity, interests, a short bio, and photos. Hosts can set room filters for those same fields so a knock fits the evening.

While you use the product we also keep room membership, knock requests, chat sent in a room, and host settings such as schedule and age range. If you allow preferences, your theme choice lives in your browser as ss-theme.

How we use it

We use this information to keep you signed in, show your profile to a host when you knock, match rooms to interests, sync playback, and let you manage or delete your account.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context advertising. We do not use advertising networks.

Who can see it

Hosts see the profile you present when you knock — name, photos, and the details you chose to share. Guests in a room see chat and who is seated. Public Explore lists rooms, not your private account settings.

Cookies and sessions

The session cookie is strictly necessary. It is httpOnly, lasts up to seven days, and lets you host, knock, and chat. We set it only after you sign in.

Preference storage is optional. If you accept it, we remember light or dark theme on this device as ss-theme. We also store your cookie choice as ss-consent so we do not ask on every visit.

You can Accept all, keep Necessary only, or Customize. Change that later from Cookie settings in the footer, your account menu, or Account. Under EU and UK rules, optional storage waits for consent. Under US state privacy laws, this is also how we honor a preference not to store extra data — we do not sell or share personal information.

Official players such as YouTube may set their own cookies when you watch a title. Their policies apply to that player.

Third parties

Playback uses official player embeds (for example YouTube). If you choose Google sign-in, Google shares the account details needed to create or restore your seat. Their policies apply to that exchange.

How long we keep it

Your account stays until you delete it in Settings. Deletion hides the profile at once. We keep the account for three months so you can sign in and restore it. After that grace period the record is purged.

Age

Afterseat is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Your choices

You can edit your profile, change your password, and delete your account from Account. Sign in first if you are not already in a session. Cookie choices can be opened from Account or Cookie settings without signing in on the public pages.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date above. Continued use of Afterseat after a change means you accept the revised policy.
